Lover’s Lake

1. The original name of Lover’s Lake is “Headstone for five justice fighters.” It is a lake gathered by six streams. You can see beautiful reflections of trees and mountains besides the lake on the quiet surface of the lake. There are also spectacular sights such as molding catenary bridge, fanning mills, waterwheels by the lake that create a romantic atmosphere of Lover’s Lake.

Walk along on the brick-made stair; you will first see two rectangular wooden buildings with picnicking tables inside. After passing the Tourist Centers, you can reach the lake. There is an old-fashioned mill next to the lake for you to enjoy the view and experience the picture-like scenery from above. The walking paths are quiet and remote, there are usually lovers walking through hand in hand. The wooden pavilions along the walking path can offer you a place to rest, chat, and enjoy the view.

If you are still energetic, you can keep going on the mountain-surrounded walking path. Along the green waling path, there are few sight seeing pavilions where you can look far into the distance and see magnificent view of Tawulun Mountain, Ao-di harbor and the coastline. There is also a walking path to Tawulun Battery, the completed touring net is worth you a try.

2. Tawulun Battery

Tawulun Battery located at the northeast of Lover’s lake. It is identified as the second-class historical site of Taiwan. It was built in Ching dynasty. However, the buildings we see today might be constructed during Japanese rule.

The battery is mainly divided into four parts: entranceway, cantonment, cannonry, and bailey. Following the stone-made road of the entrance, you can first reach the cantonment area. The cantonment was a rectangular structure which had the roof ripped off already. The other side is the cantonment in cave which is built by digging through the hill. The roof of this cantonment is made from cement with arched shaped. There are also arched windows and doors. The cantonment in cave is the most secret place in the whole building.

The four cannonries in the cannonry area no longer exist, but only gutters of emplacement and pedestal of wheels on the ground. There is a slope next to the emplacement for the convenience of equipment supply.

The bailey is projected from the east, south and north side of the battery. The crossing network can sufficiently contain invaders. An important military base with a sense of war hidden away in tree shadows somehow reveals a sense of wintry that talk about her long age history.
